Happy *almost, almost* birthday to me! March is my favorite month — spring comes along, and I get to celebrate another revolution around the sun. And it’s women’s history month to boot! To celebrate I wanted to highlight an artist that I have already highlighted in her capacity as a performer of another name. The project I want to celebrate this month is one of my favorite in recent years — a free jazz collective with polyrhythms and words that hurl you into the Afrofuture, warmly cradling you as you flow through time and space. The music this month’s artists make is the music of freedom, change, and reckoning. Give it up, give it up, give it up for the incredible Irreversible Entanglements, led by none other than my labelmate Camae Ayewa aka Moor Mother, my First Thursday pick from many moons ago. Listen to their latest track “No Más” on their forthcoming project Who Sent You here and then check out the rest of my First Thursday picks here.
